Tech Tip: Keep Your System Updated

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Make sure you always update your operating system and any installed software on your computer.  The latest updates are generally available on the manufacturers web site.  For instance; to update Microsoft products, go to http://update.microsoft.com.  Some operating systems and software have the update feature available from within the software itself.  Check with your manufacturer for the specific updating procedure.

Updates generally fix bugs that were found later on after the software was released.  If you are experiencing a glitch or error message, sometimes the simple solution is to install an update.  In addition, updates patch any potential security weaknesses.  For instance, Microsoft regularly releases updates to patch any recently discovered security “holes” which could allow a hacker or malicious software to attack and infect your system.

Keeping your computer up-to-date, running a updated anti virus software, and practicing safe internet browsing habits will help keep your experience with your system a pleasant one.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at info@monmouthcomputer.com.
